Muscle
conditioning and movement function can be enhanced with
regular fitness training. Ideally this involves a combination
of aerobic activity, functional or sports
specific strengthening, and flexibility exercises. |
|
|
|
| |
A balance of different exercises
and sports can help to prevent overuse or unequal muscle
development, and will train the different energy systems
in the body. However poor movement patterns and dynamic
posture or alignment can increase muscle imbalances and
the risk of injury. |

Pilates
based exercises are controlled and precise, with challenge
from varying intensity or speed. Programmes target individual
muscle weaknesses, with an overall emphasis on abdominal
and core trunk muscles in isolation or with limbs. This
assists in developing the co-ordination of different muscle
groups in the body that either stabilise, or move joints. |

Core
stability can refer to the support and control given by
muscles around joints and between joint segments to control
the amount of movement. For example, the Transversus Abdominalis
muscle, works as a deep stabilising muscle. It can contract
as a protective response to strengthen and stabilise the
spine in anticipation to load from movements. |
